XIII
Major Arcana · Transformation
Death signals a real ending and a transformation that cannot be undone. It does not normally predict physical death: it asks us to recognize which form has run its course so energy can stop holding it in place.
Meaning
Upright, arcana XIII often describes an irreversible process. Something ends not as punishment, but because continuing unchanged would deny the shift that has already occurred. It may concern an identity, relationship, habit or season.

Reversal
Reversed, it may point to a part of the process being held back or repeated. It does not make the transformation worse; it asks what it costs to keep negotiating with what has already ended.
Symbols worth noticing
Change appears not as an isolated accident, but as a force crossing rank and age.
Beauty, silence and distillation within an image that often provokes fear.
Passage between states; a human story older than any deck.
The horizon continues, though it does not invalidate the loss in the foreground.
A question to carry
What am I keeping alive only because I do not yet know who I will be afterward?
What this card does not say
This card does not literally announce a death or prove that an event is inevitable. A responsible reading does not use fear to turn a symbol into certainty.
